Photo Tips for Best Results
The AI is most accurate with a clear, unobstructed photo. Follow these tips:
Good lighting
Natural or even indoor light — avoid harsh shadows across your face.
Face the camera
Look straight into the lens. Slight tilts reduce landmark accuracy.
Remove glasses
Sunglasses and heavy frames can block key landmark detection points.
Hair off your face
Pull hair away from your forehead and cheeks for clearer measurements.
No filters
Heavy Snapchat or Instagram filters can distort facial proportions.
Plain background
A neutral, uncluttered background helps the AI isolate your face.
Complete Guide to the 7 Face Shapes
Each shape has distinct proportions and styling approaches. Find yours below.
Oval Face Shape
Length : Width ≈ 1.5 : 1F · C · J widths
The oval face is considered the gold standard of face shapes — slightly longer than wide, with the forehead marginally broader than the jaw and the chin tapering to a gentle curve. Cheekbones are the widest point.
Famous Faces
Beyoncé, George Clooney, Jessica Alba, Ryan Reynolds, Charlize Theron
Best Hairstyles
Almost any hairstyle works — from short crops to long waves. Experiment freely.
Best Glasses
Avoid oversized frames. Geometric, wayfarer, and aviator styles all complement the oval.
Contouring Tips
Lightly contour the temples to maintain the balanced look. Highlight cheekbones.
Round Face Shape
Length : Width ≈ 1 : 1F · C · J widths
A round face has nearly equal width and length, with full cheeks and a soft, rounded hairline and jaw. There are no sharp angles — the face curves gently throughout.
Famous Faces
Selena Gomez, Chrissy Teigen, Adele, Jack Black
Best Hairstyles
Add height on top to elongate — pompadour, high ponytail, or long straight hair. Avoid bobs at cheek level.
Best Glasses
Angular rectangular or wayfarer frames add structure. Cat-eye frames visually lift the face.
Contouring Tips
Contour along the sides of the face. Apply blush diagonally to add definition.
Square Face Shape
Forehead ≈ Cheeks ≈ JawF · C · J widths
A square face has a strong jawline with the forehead, cheekbones, and jaw all similar in width. The face has a flat top and squared-off corners, conveying strength and confidence.
Famous Faces
Brad Pitt, Olivia Wilde, Daniel Craig, Demi Moore
Best Hairstyles
Soft waves, layers, and side parts soften angular edges. Avoid blunt cuts that add width at jaw level.
Best Glasses
Round or oval frames create contrast. Rimless styles add subtlety.
Contouring Tips
Round the forehead corners and jaw. Soft blush on the apples of the cheeks adds warmth.
Heart Face Shape
Forehead > Cheekbones > JawF · C · J widths
Heart-shaped faces are widest at the forehead and taper sharply to a narrow, pointed chin. High, prominent cheekbones are a defining feature.
Famous Faces
Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Gosling, Scarlett Johansson, Ashton Kutcher
Best Hairstyles
Chin-length bobs and volume at the jaw level balance the wider forehead. Avoid heavy volume at the temples.
Best Glasses
Bottom-heavy frames, aviators, and rimless top frames balance the wider forehead.
Contouring Tips
Contour the forehead temples to reduce width. Apply highlighter on the chin.
Diamond Face Shape
Cheekbones > Forehead ≈ JawF · C · J widths
Diamond is one of the rarest face shapes — a narrow forehead and chin with dramatically wide, angular cheekbones as the broadest point, giving a striking, sculpted appearance.
Famous Faces
Johnny Depp, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Robert Pattinson
Best Hairstyles
Add width at the forehead and chin. Side-swept bangs, volume at the crown, and chin-length bobs work well.
Best Glasses
Oval, rimless, or cat-eye frames that add width at the top and bottom of the face.
Contouring Tips
Highlight the forehead and chin. Contour the sides of the cheekbones slightly.
Oblong Face Shape
Length : Width > 1.7 : 1F · C · J widths
An oblong (rectangle) face is significantly longer than wide, with forehead, cheeks, and jaw all similar in width. The face appears narrow and elongated.
Famous Faces
Liv Tyler, Ben Affleck, Sarah Jessica Parker, Adam Sandler
Best Hairstyles
Add width at the sides — wavy bobs, voluminous curls, or side-swept bangs. Avoid very long, straight hair.
Best Glasses
Large wide frames or rectangular frames that extend beyond the face add horizontal width.
Contouring Tips
Apply blush horizontally. Contour the top of the forehead and bottom of the chin to reduce perceived length.
Triangle Face Shape
Jaw > Cheekbones > ForeheadF · C · J widths
A triangle (pear) face has a narrow forehead that widens toward a broad, dominant jawline. The face is heaviest at the bottom.
Famous Faces
Will Smith, Kelly Osbourne, Minnie Driver, Queen Latifah
Best Hairstyles
Add volume at the crown and temples to balance the wider jaw. Avoid heavy volume at jaw level.
Best Glasses
Cat-eye and top-heavy frames draw attention upward, balancing the strong jaw.
Contouring Tips
Highlight the forehead. Contour along the jaw sides to slim the lower face.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the AI face shape detector work?
It uses an on-device AI model (face-api.js + TensorFlow.js) to locate 68 facial landmark points on your photo. It calculates ratios between forehead, cheekbone, jaw width, and face length to classify your shape. It also scores individual features — eyes, eyebrows, lips, and nose — based on classical proportion standards. All processing runs inside your browser.
What does the feature analysis score mean?
Each feature is scored out of 10 based on how closely its proportions match classical beauty and golden ratio principles — things like eye width relative to face width, nose length relative to face height, and lip upper-to-lower ratio. A score of 7–8 is well proportioned; 8–10 is exceptional. These are proportion-based scores, not subjective attractiveness judgements.
Is my photo or selfie private?
Yes, completely. The AI model runs entirely inside your browser using WebGL/TensorFlow.js. Your photo is never uploaded, stored, or transmitted. Close or refresh the page and the image is permanently gone.
What kind of photo gives the best result?
A clear, front-facing photo with even lighting. Look directly at the camera, remove sunglasses and accessories, pull hair away from your forehead and cheeks, and avoid extreme angles, heavy filters, or expressions that distort facial landmarks.
What are the 7 face shapes?
Oval (balanced, slightly longer than wide), Round (similar width and length, soft jaw), Square (forehead, cheeks and jaw similar width, angular jaw), Heart (wide forehead tapering to narrow chin), Diamond (wide cheekbones, narrow forehead and jaw), Oblong/Rectangle (long and narrow), and Triangle (wide jaw, narrow forehead). The tool identifies your closest match and may suggest a secondary shape if you are borderline.
Which face shape is most common?
Oval is widely cited as the most common and is considered the most balanced face shape. Round and square shapes are also very prevalent. Diamond and triangle are less common.
What hairstyle suits my face shape?
Our detector gives personalised recommendations per shape. Oval suits most styles. Round benefits from height and length. Square suits soft waves. Heart looks great with chin-length bobs. Diamond suits styles adding forehead width. Oblong benefits from side volume. Triangle suits volume at the crown.
Can I use this face shape detector on my phone?
Yes — works on any modern smartphone, tablet, or desktop browser. The selfie mode uses your front-facing camera directly, and you can also upload any photo from your gallery.
